The Pastry and Dessert Chef will oversee the pastry & dessert section of the kitchen, collaborating with other chefs to create and manage a diverse range of desserts and pastries. This role involves designing new recipes and dessert menus while staying updated with the latest trends and market demands.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the creation and development of innovative pastry & dessert recipes, incorporating diverse flavors, ingredients, and techniques from conception to execution.
- Collaborate with the culinary team to identify opportunities for menu enhancement by introducing new pastry & dessert offerings that align with current culinary trends and customer preferences.
- Research and source high-quality ingredients, including seasonal and specialty items, ensuring freshness, flavor, and sustainability in pastry creations.
- Develop recipes with a focus on cost efficiency, optimizing ingredient usage and portion sizes to maximize profitability while delivering exceptional quality.
- Work closely with other departments, including kitchen staff, service, and management teams, to coordinate menu changes, special events, and promotional activities.
- Stay informed about industry trends, culinary innovations, and emerging ingredients to inspire creativity and drive continuous innovation in pastry & dessert offerings.
- Supervise and train pastry & dessert kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.
- Ensure that all pastry and dessert items meet the highest standards of quality and presentation before serving.
- Maintain inventory levels for pastry & desssert ingredients, ensuring efficient stock control and minimizing waste.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring a clean and safe working environment in the pastry & dessert section.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Hotel Restaurant Management or a pastry/culinary certificate program.
- 2-3 years of experience as the head of a pastry or dessert department or in a relevant role within casual dining restaurant or hotel industry.
- Proficient in baking techniques and the pastry-making process.
- Knowledgeable in chocolate and ice cream preparation process.
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in pastry recipe development.
- Passion for exploring new flavors, techniques, and presentation styles.
