The Role & Your Impact

We are seeking a QA Engineer to join our Assure team.

This is a 12-month contract, 100% remote, with contract renewal reviews every 12 months for applicants based in the Philippines. (We are not accepting applications from other countries for this role.)

You will focus primarily on manual testing while contributing to light automation and API testing. You'll collaborate with fellow QA Engineers and cross-functional squad members including Product Managers and Engineers, with oversight from the Head of Product & Engineering. Your work will directly improve release quality, reduce defects in production, and enhance customer experience.

Assure, our Education and Assessment platform, measures the capabilities that matter with valid, reliable assessments and credentialing. Backed by robust competency framework management tools, our technology allows government and organisation leaders to shift education and assessments online, securely. In Australia, our platform is the trusted leader in delivering learning, testing, and credentialing to motor vehicle operators. We have over 3.5 million certifications awarded across multiple state governments.

What You'll Do

• Translate designs, specifications, user stories, and wireframes into clear, traceable test cases.
• Execute functional, regression, integration, cross-browser/device, and API tests to assess release readiness.
• Document test results, risks, and defects with clear reproduction steps and expected outcomes.
• Participate in backlog refinement and sprint ceremonies to ensure quality is planned, not inspected in at the end.
• Provide actionable feedback on test coverage, acceptance criteria, and overall release risk.
• Recommend process improvements and contribute to continuous improvement of our test strategy, tooling, and workflows.
• Partner with engineers to improve and automate test and release processes where it adds value.

What You'll Bring (Skills & Capabilities)

• 2–5+ years' experience in manual software testing within a modern product environment.
• At least 1 year across test automation concepts, test planning, test case design, test strategy, and test validation.
• Hands-on API testing experience (e.g., validating request/response data and ensuring API functionality).
• Exposure to automated testing tools and writing simple test scripts (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Postman collections, or similar).
• Ability to read and comprehend designs, specs, stories, wireframes, and translate them into effective test cases.
• Strong analytical skills; able to decompose complex problems into logical, testable chunks.
• Clear written documentation skills; comfortable using Jira and Confluence (or equivalents).
• Growth mindset: willingness to learn new skills, tools, and frameworks.
• Customer-centric mindset and strong attention to detail.

Nice to have

• Experience working with distributed teams and asynchronous collaboration.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating tests into build processes.
• Basic SQL for test data validation.
