The Commis Chef is an entry-level culinary role that supports senior kitchen staff in preparing, cooking, and presenting Japanese dishes. This position is ideal for individuals with foundational kitchen skills who are eager to learn authentic Japanese cooking techniques and grow within the culinary team.
Qualifications:
- At least 6 months – 1 year of professional kitchen experience (Japanese cuisine experience is a strong advantage).
- Culinary diploma or vocational training in food preparation preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
- Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and portion control guidelines.
- Strong teamwork, adaptability, and willingness to learn.
- Physical stamina to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparation and cooking of dishes under the supervision of senior chefs.
- Perform mise en place: chopping, slicing, marinating, and preparing ingredients.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.
- Support senior line cooks and chefs during service, especially in peak hours.
- Learn and practice authentic Japanese cooking methods (e.g., sushi rice preparation, stock making, tempura batter, etc.).
- Assist in plating dishes, ensuring consistency in presentation and portion sizes.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff to maintain smooth workflow.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Php15, Php18,000.00 per month
