Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Server Management:

Oversee the installation, configuration, and management of database servers (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

  • Performance Tuning & Optimization:

Regularly monitor and optimize the performance of database servers. Resolve issues related to database performance, bottlenecks, and resource utilization (CPU, memory, disk I/O).

  • Database Backups and Recovery:

Implement and manage comprehensive backup and recovery strategies. Ensure data recovery procedures are regularly tested and functional to minimize downtime during disasters.

  • Security Management:

Configure and enforce database security policies, including user authentication, authorization, and encryption. Work with IT security teams to ensure compliance with company standards and regulations.

  • Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution:

Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including server failures, data corruption, and system errors. Ensure minimal disruption to business operations.

  • Database Migration & Upgrades:

Plan and execute the migration of databases between servers, as well as upgrades to new versions of database software.

  • Capacity Planning & Scaling:

Analyze database growth trends and assist in capacity planning for future scaling needs. Implement measures to ensure efficient storage management.

  • Documentation & Reporting:

Maintain up-to-date documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Provide regular reports on system health, incidents, and performance metrics.

  • Collaboration & Support:

Work closely with other IT teams, developers, and system administrators to support database-driven applications and services. Provide technical support for database-related queries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing and administering database servers (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery strategies, including point-in-time recovery and automated backup systems.
  • Familiarity with database security practices, including user roles, data encryption, and access controls.
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting using languages like PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud database environments (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database-related issues.
  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—enabling effective collaboration across technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on maintaining high database performance, availability, and security.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively.
