Job Title: General Sales Manager (GSM)
Job Summary:
The General Sales Manager (GSM) is responsible for leading and managing the dealership's new vehicle sales departments. This includes setting sales goals, developing effective sales strategies, managing and motivating the sales team, optimizing profitability, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
Sales Strategy & Leadership:Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve dealership sales targets and gross profit objectives.Lead, coach, and manage sales managers, and the sales team to ensure performance expectations are met or exceeded.Monitor and analyze sales metrics to identify areas of improvement.Conduct regular sales meetings and training sessions to improve product knowledge, sales techniques, and customer service.Customer Experience:Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through effective problem-solving, employee training, and a customer-first sales process.Handle customer escalations and resolve issues promptly to maintain dealership reputation and customer loyalty.Inventory & Merchandising:Work with the inventory manager to ensure optimal stock levels and effective vehicle merchandising.Coordinate with the marketing team to develop promotions, advertising, and digital campaigns to drive showroom traffic.Team Management:Hire, train, develop, and retain top-performing sales professionals.Establish clear goals and performance metrics for the sales team.Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations.Finance & Compliance:Oversee F&I processes and ensure complianceCollaborate with the finance team to structure deals, maximize profit, and secure approvals.Monitor desking practices to ensure accurate and compliant deal structuring.Reporting & Forecasting:Track daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance against goals.Prepare and present performance reports to the Sales Head.Forecast monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets and adjust strategies accordingly. Qualifications:Proven experience (5+ years) in automotive retail sales, with at least 2 years in a senior sales management role.Strong leadership and people management skills.Deep knowledge of automotive sales processes, F&I procedures, and dealership operations.Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.Ability to analyze data, create reports, and develop action plans.Proficient with CRM and DMS systemsCollege graduate of a 4-year course.
