POSITION SUMMARY
The chef consultant provides expert culinary guidance to improve menu offerings, kitchen operations, food quality, and overall dining experience. This role focuses on menu development, kitchen workflow optimization, cost control, staff training, and ensuring food safety standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Menu Development & Food Innovation
- Create, update, and standardize recipes based on client requirements and market trends.
- Innovate new dishes, improve existing menu items, and ensure consistent food presentation.
- Conduct tasting sessions and adjust recipes based on feedback.
2. Kitchen Operations Improvement
- Assess current kitchen workflow and recommend improvements.
- Develop kitchen production procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist in layout planning and equipment selection, if needed.
3. Costing & Inventory Management
- Prepare accurate recipe costing and set appropriate pricing strategies.
- Recommend cost-efficient sourcing of raw materials without compromising quality.
- Train staff on inventory control and portioning techniques.
4. Staff Training & Development
- Train kitchen staff on proper food preparation, cooking techniques, hygiene, and safety practices.
- Provide hands-on demonstrations and skill development sessions.
- Evaluate staff performance and identify areas for improvement.
5. Food Quality & Safety Compliance
- Ensure all food handling practices meet safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards.
- Conduct quality checks to maintain consistency in taste, presentation, and portioning.
- Implement and monitor HACCP or other relevant food safety systems.
6. Consultancy & Reporting
- Provide expert recommendations to improve culinary performance and guest satisfaction.
- Prepare project reports, including findings, action plans, and operational improvements.
- Monitor changes and ensure sustainable implementation of recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience as an executive chef, sous chef, or culinary consultant.
- Strong knowledge of culinary trends, food preparation techniques, and kitchen management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and training skills.
- Ability to prepare menu costing and manage kitchen budgets.
- Certification in food safety or culinary arts is an advantage.
Job Type: Full-time
