Job Summary:

The Infection Prevention and Control Nurse (IPCN) is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring infection prevention and control activities within the hospital. The IPCN ensures adherence to infection control policies and standards to prevent and reduce hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) among patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and maintains the hospital's Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program in compliance with DOH and WHO standards.
  • Conducts routine surveillance of hospital-acquired infections and prepares detailed reports for review and corrective action.
  • Leads and assists in outbreak investigations, identifying causes and recommending preventive measures.
  • Provides education and training to healthcare staff on infection control protocols, proper hand hygiene, use of PPE, and standard precautions.
  • Performs regular audits and environmental rounds in wards, operating rooms, and critical care areas to monitor compliance with infection control standards.
  • Coordinates with the Housekeeping, Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), and Engineering departments to ensure effective sterilization, cleaning, and waste management practices.
  • Monitors and promotes antimicrobial stewardship in collaboration with physicians and pharmacists.
  • Reviews and updates infection control policies, guidelines, and manuals as needed.
  • Maintains infection surveillance data and documentation for hospital accreditation and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in the Hospital Infection Control Committee and provides expert advice on infection-related issues and outbreaks.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with an active PRC license.
  • Preferably completed Infection Prevention and Control Training (DOH-accredited or equivalent).
  • At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience in a hospital setting.
  • Strong knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, aseptic technique, and sterilization processes.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to train and guide healthcare staff on infection control practices.
