Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to bring financial organization and structure to a rapidly growing outdoor adventure business. You'll play a crucial role in transforming the company's financial systems from basic spreadsheets to professional accounting practices using QuickBooks. The position offers the unique challenge of catching up on significant backlogged work while establishing robust ongoing systems for a multi-faceted business. You'll handle everything from equipment depreciation for boats and marine gear to quarterly tax reclaims, making this role both challenging and rewarding for someone who enjoys variety and problem-solving in their accounting work.

Responsibilities
  • Tackle and organize hours of backlogged financial records to bring the business current
  • Implement and maintain QuickBooks system for streamlined financial management
  • Categorize and track expenses across multiple exciting business divisions including boat tours, fishing charters, kayaking operations, and campground development
  • Handle Canadian GST and PST reclaim submissions quarterly to recover significant tax refunds
  • Manage equipment depreciation schedules for boats, marine equipment, and tourism assets
  • Process and categorize receipts using modern AI-enabled tools for efficient workflow
  • Maintain separate tracking for different business streams while consolidating financial reporting
  • Support seasonal business operations with flexible scheduling during active and off-seasons
Requirements
  • Proven bookkeeping experience, preferably with small to medium businesses
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax requirements, including GST/PST handling
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting software platforms
  • Experience managing equipment depreciation and asset tracking
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently on catch-up projects
  • Clear English communication skills for regular client interaction
  • Comfort working with seasonal business cycles and varying workload intensity
  • Detail-oriented approach to handling multiple business entities and expense categories
