Job Overview

The role of the Court Liaison Officer is to represent the Director-General in youth justice court matters, provide strategic guidance and act as a consultant to other departmental staff in order to promote high standards of departmental services to courts and clients. The organisation is committed to keeping communities safe from violence and fear.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and commitment to developing inclusive relationships that align with human rights principles and support community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Undertake comprehensive pre-court preparations, including conducting and assisting others to conduct necessary pre-court interviews, in accordance with procedures and quality benchmarks.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify early intervention opportunities, make appropriate referrals and formulate confident court submissions based on written material.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including Magistrates, Judges, legal representatives, police, Community Justice Groups and community organisations, to ensure quality court services and further quality outcomes for young people and their families/carers.
  • Provide post-court advice to young people, families/carers, stakeholders and relevant youth justice staff, while comprehensively completing post-court documentation and case notes.
  • Maintain office systems and contribute to the development of new systems in relation to court matters, ensuring efficient management of court appearances, timely recording of outcomes and monitoring of trends and issues.
  • Participate in the youth justice service centre management team and contribute to strategic and operational planning, reviews and key decision-making.
  • Provide consultancy and mentoring roles for departmental staff and other stakeholders in relation to youth justice court-related matters, including training delivery and quality assurance of materials.
  • Undertake professional casework and restorative justice tasks as required.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance abilities and contribute to organisational goals, including training, supervision and accreditation processes.
