Steel Detailer – Bar Grating

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Steel Detailer with strong experience in bar grating and miscellaneous metals, including stairs, handrails, supports, embeds, and custom fabrications. The ideal candidate is proficient in Tekla Structures, and experience with Advance Steel is highly desirable. This individual will be responsible for preparing detailed 2D and 3D models, shop drawings, and material lists based on contract drawings and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate and timely shop drawings for bar grating and miscellaneous metal fabrications using Tekla Structures.

  • Interpret and extract relevant information from structural and architectural drawings.

  • Produce detailed fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and bills of materials.

  • Coordinate with project managers, fabricators, and engineers to resolve design and detailing issues.

  • Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, customer specifications, and applicable codes.

  • Manage drawing revisions and maintain up-to-date project documentation.

  • Assist with clash detection, model reviews, and coordination with other trades, when required.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet tight production schedules and deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in steel detailing for bar grating and miscellaneous metals.

  • Proficiency in Tekla Structures; working knowledge of Advance Steel is a strong plus.

  • Solid understanding of fabrication practices, shop standards, and field requirements.

  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.

  • Fluent in both spoken and written English (required).

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Familiarity with industry codes (e.g., AISC, OSHA) is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working for or with a grating manufacturer or miscellaneous metals fabricator.

  • Knowledge of galvanizing and finishing processes.

  • Experience with CNC export file generation for shop equipment.

  • Associate degree or technical training in drafting or a related engineering field.
