Produce Supervisor

The Produce Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the produce department, ensuring high standards in the handling, quality, and presentation of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other perishable produce. This role ensures that all fresh items are stocked, rotated, and displayed properly, while maintaining food safety, cleanliness, and excellent customer service.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Product Handling & Quality Control
- Ensure all fruits and vegetables are handled, stored, and displayed according to freshness and food safety standards.
- Perform daily quality checks to remove damaged, overripe, or expired items.
- Rotate stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) to reduce waste and maintain freshness.
Merchandising & Display
- Set up and maintain attractive, clean, and well-stocked displays of fresh produce.
- Follow planograms or merchandising standards, and adjust displays based on seasonality and sales trends.
- Maintain signage, pricing, and labeling accuracy.
Inventory & Receiving
- Assist with receiving deliveries, inspecting produce for freshness, quality, and accurate quantities.
- Maintain proper storage conditions (temperature, humidity, stacking) for all perishable items.
- Help with inventory tracking, shrink control, and reporting spoiled or damaged items.
Team Supervision
- Supervise and support produce team members in stocking, cleaning, and customer service.
- Train staff on proper product handling, food safety, and customer interaction.
- Schedule tasks and monitor department operations throughout the day.
Sanitation & Safety
- Ensure all work areas, storage spaces, and display cases are clean, sanitized, and organized.
- Enforce all health, safety, and food handling regulations.
- Monitor and maintain equipment such as coolers, scales, and cutting tools.
Customer Service
- Assist customers with produce selection, storage advice, and product information.
- Respond promptly to questions or complaints related to freshness or availability.
- Promote seasonal or featured items to boost customer interest and sales.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's/College Degree in any field.
- At least 2 to 3 years of working experience in the supervisory level in relation to the field is required for this position.
- Experience handling fresh produce in a grocery or retail environment.
- Knowledge of fruit and vegetable varieties, seasonality, and proper storage.
- Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures.
