The
Senior Buyer
is responsible for the strategic sourcing, negotiation, and procurement of raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and indirect supplies critical to animal feed production. The role ensures cost-effective purchasing while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Working closely with Production, Quality Assurance, R&D, and Supply Chain, the Senior Buyer supports business continuity, supplier relationship management, and cost optimization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for raw materials (e.g., corn, soybean meal, fishmeal, vitamins, minerals, additives) and packaging materials.
  • Manage supplier selection, qualification, and performance, ensuring compliance with animal feed safety and quality standards.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to achieve cost savings and secure reliable supply.
  • Monitor commodity markets, price trends, and supply risks to inform purchasing decisions.
  • Collaborate with Production Planning and Supply Chain to ensure material availability and accurate forecasting.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (e.g., GMP+, HACCP, FDA, ISO, local feed regulations).
  • Manage inventory levels to balance cost efficiency with production requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes, supplier relationships, and cost management.
  • Prepare procurement reports, spend analysis, and supplier performance scorecards.
  • Mentor and guide junior buyers or procurement staff when required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Agribusiness, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–8 years of procurement experience, preferably in
    animal feed, agriculture
  • Strong knowledge of feed ingredients, raw material markets, and supply chain operations.
  • Proven negotiation, vendor management, and contract management skills.
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and quality compliance in feed production.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and skilled in market trend analysis.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
