Our Economic Development programs are dedicated to a core goal: fostering sustainable livelihoods by developing and strengthening local enterprises. We go beyond observation to active co-creation, working directly with communities to translate on-the-ground knowledge into practical strategies for growth.
We need someone who thrives at the intersection of research and real-world impact to achieve this. This role is the critical link that connects raw data from the field to actionable strategy for our programs. You will transform on-the-ground observations into the information we need to design and launch support that is relevant, effective, and responsive to community needs and Good Neighbor's strategic direction.
Essential Responsibilities:
Catalyze Community Livelihoods
Identify and assess potential for sustainable community-based enterprises in target communities;
Use research findings to design and propose practical livelihood project plans;
Collaborate with the local team and community key actors in laying the groundwork for the launch of new community initiatives;
Ground all initiatives on strong market and value-chain understanding.
Field Research and Data Collection
- Conduct primary field research through interviews, surveys, and focus group discussions with key value chain actors (e.g., fisherfolk, farmers, traders, processors, academia);
- Map end-to-end value chains, analyzing the flow of products and information to identify key actors, business models, challenges, and bottlenecks.
- Gather, manage, and clean qualitative and quantitative data on production, market prices, costs, and post-harvest losses.
- Synthesize research findings into clear and actionable summaries through presentations, reports, and data visualizations.
Project and Administrative Support
- Provide logistical support for research and community livelihood activities, including field visits and coordinating with both internal and external partners, and community stakeholders.
- Prepare draft reports, briefing notes, and presentations to document findings and support internal decision-making.
- Work closely with the Program Manager to ensure activities are aligned with project objectives, timelines and deliverables.
- Take on Special Projects that may be assigned from time to time.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Graduate of Agricultural Economics, Business Administration or Social Science course
- Grassroots Experience – 3-5 years of hands-on research and business development experience, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively within urban and rural communities.
- Structured Project Implementor Structured approach to project management, with good coordination and communication skills.
- Grounded Connector Relatable, someone who values and builds trust; listens well; connects authentically with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Practical and Innovative Thinker Ability to think beyond established frameworks; we value someone who applies a practical lens to challenges.
- Willingness to Travel Must be willing and able to undertake extensive travel to various regions in the Philippines for field research and business development projects.
- Experience in Social Enterprise development or scaling startup businesses is a plus.
- Willing to start ASAP.
