An Import Manager oversees the entire importation process, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and optimizing the supply chain for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This role involves managing relationships with suppliers, coordinating with customs brokers, and maintaining proper documentation to facilitate the smooth flow of goods across international borders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Import Operations Management

  • Plan, organize, and oversee the importation process to meet company objectives.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other logistics partners.

Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, tariffs, and customs requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and verify shipping and import documentation, such as invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading.
  • Maintain records of import activities for audit and compliance purposes.

Vendor and Supplier Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with international suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers and service providers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues promptly.

Budget and Cost Control

  • Monitor and manage import budgets, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Analyze and optimize shipping and transportation costs.

Team Leadership and Coordination

  • Lead and guide a team of logistics and import specialists.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement, warehouse, and sales, to ensure alignment with business goals.

Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate risks in the importation process, including geopolitical and financial risks.
  • Stay updated on changes in trade regulations and industry trends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience in import operations or international logistics.
  • Proven track record in managing supplier relationships and compliance.
