The Import Buyer (Non-Food) is responsible for sourcing, selecting, and purchasing imported merchandise across non-food categories such as home improvement, pets, fashion, houseware, apparel, or general merchandise. This role ensures that product assortments are competitive, profitable, and aligned with market trends and customer preferences. The Import Buyer drives category performance through effective supplier management, strategic negotiations, and product innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Buying & Product Selection

  • Identify and source new imported products aligned with brand strategy and market trends.
  • Analyze sales reports, customer insights, and competitive activities to develop effective buying plans.

2. Supplier Sourcing & Negotiation

  • Develop and maintain relationships with overseas suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Negotiate cost, payment terms, lead time, and exclusivity agreements to achieve target margins.

3. Forecasting & Inventory Planning

  • Collaborate with planning and allocation teams to ensure sufficient stock levels and product availability.
  • Monitor category performance and align replenishment with demand forecasts.

4. Import Coordination

  • Work closely with the logistics and import team for purchase order processing and shipment schedules.
  • Ensure all buying activities comply with company policies, pricing structures, and import regulations.

5. Market & Trend Analysis

  • Stay updated on global sourcing trends, product innovations, and emerging suppliers.
  • Conduct regular market visits and trade shows (local and international) to identify new buying opportunities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in buying or merchandising for non-food retail categories.
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Experience in sourcing from international suppliers.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, JDA).
  • Excellent communication, organization, and decision-making abilities.
  • Keen eye for product trends, quality, and pricing.
