Estimator

The Opportunity: We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our client's construction team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating costs for a variety of civil construction projects, from initial concept through final bid submission. This role requires a strong understanding of civil plans, exceptional analytical abilities, and a collaborative spirit.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan Interpretation: Interpret civil plan sets, profiles, and grading plans, identifying scope, elevations, and critical construction details.
• Quantity Takeoffs: Conduct precise quantity takeoffs for site grading, utilities, trenching, pipe bedding, backfill, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt scopes. Utilize industry-standard tools such as STACK and PlanSwift for area and linear takeoffs, and AGTEK, Trimble, or Civil 3D for comprehensive site grading analysis.
• Cost Sourcing: Proactively gather competitive quotes and pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure the accuracy and competitiveness of estimates.
• Estimate Generation: Generate comprehensive and competitive estimates and pricing models using advanced Excel functionalities.
• Cost Analysis: Analyze unit costs, production rates, and historical project data to develop robust and strategic pricing strategies.
• Documentation & Proposals: Prepare detailed bid forms, cost breakdowns, scope clarifications, and professional proposal documents.
• Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with project managers, senior estimators, and field personnel to validate, refine, and optimize estimates, ensuring constructability and accuracy.
• Record Keeping: Organize and maintain bid files, RFIs, plan sets, and estimate records in shared drives or project management systems for efficient access and historical reference.
• Database Management: Maintain and regularly update internal cost databases for labor, materials, equipment, trucking, and subcontractors, ensuring data integrity and relevance.
• Virtual Meetings: Participate actively in virtual meetings, ensuring accurate and timely submission of all bid packages.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 3-5 years of progressive experience in civil construction estimating.
• Technical Proficiency:
• Demonstrated expertise with estimating software such as STACK, PlanSwift.
• Proficiency in site modeling software like AGTEK, Trimble, or Civil 3D for grading takeoffs.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for complex financial modeling and data analysis.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Field Experience (Strongly Preferred): Hands-on field experience in construction, such as an equipment operator, pipe layer, or grade setter. This includes practical understanding of setting grade stakes, using laser levels, and assisting with excavation and utility layout, providing valuable insight into constructability and real-world conditions.
• Digital Terrain Models (Preferred): Experience building Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) and performing cut/fill calculations using site modeling software is a significant plus.
• Experience working for a U.S. company, remote or on-site, is a strong asset but not required.

Schedule: Night Shift/Mountain Standard Time US
