Job Description:

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Climate Change Expert to support the Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) process. The expert will provide technical leadership on climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, ensuring integration of climate considerations into transport policies, programs, and plans.

The role involves assessing climate risks and vulnerabilities, developing low-carbon and resilient strategies, and advising on climate-smart planning approaches in line with international frameworks and national commitments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the climate change assessment component of the SESA, focusing on mitigation, adaptation, and resilience measures.
  • Evaluate climate-related risks and impacts associated with transport sector development.
  • Develop strategies and recommendations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance climate resilience.
  • Support integration of climate change considerations into sectoral and spatial planning processes.
  • Collaborate with environmental, social, and technical specialists to ensure coordinated and sustainable project outcomes.
  • Contribute to stakeholder consultations, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives on climate resilience and low-carbon development.
  • Prepare analytical reports, policy briefs, and technical documentation on climate change aspects of the SESA.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • University degree(s) in Climate Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Meteorology, Energy Studies, or a related field.
  • A postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline is an advantage.
  • At least ten (10) years of professional experience, with a minimum of eight (8) years in climate change mitigation, adaptation, or resilience planning.
  • Experience in national, regional, provincial, or urban transport plans is a strong asset.
  • Strong knowledge of international climate policies and frameworks (e.g., UNFCCC, NDCs, Paris Agreement).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply climate risk assessment tools and integrate findings into planning and decision-making.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
