Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the marine insurance sector to drive sustainable revenue growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including shipowners, charterers, commodity traders, industry partners, and organizations such as marine insurers and P&I Clubs.
  • Develop and execute strategic business and marketing plans to expand the organization's client base and service portfolio.
  • Collaborate with senior management to assess market trends and identify opportunities for new products or service innovations.

Marine Insurance Broking

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of marine insurance clients while ensuring high-quality service delivery and client retention.
  • Evaluate clients' marine insurance requirements and risk exposures to design tailored coverage solutions, including Protection & Indemnity (P&I), hull and machinery, cargo, and other maritime liability policies.
  • Negotiate with underwriters to obtain the most competitive and comprehensive coverage terms for clients.
  • Oversee fronting arrangements and corresponding reinsurance support to ensure compliant, cost-effective, and reliable insurance solutions.
  • Coordinate closely with the Claims Department to ensure timely and effective resolution of client claims.
  • Stay abreast of global marine insurance market trends and developments to provide strategic, forward-looking advice to clients.

Client and Market Engagement

  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to promote its capabilities and expertise.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering expert insights on marine insurance practices, market updates, and regulatory compliance.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Maritime Studies, Insurance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marine insurance broking, underwriting, or a similar capacity within the maritime industry.
  • Background in business development or sales within the insurance or maritime sectors is highly advantageous.
  • Must hold a valid Licensing Exam Certification from the Philippine Insurance Commission; additional marine insurance certifications are preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proven track record in business development, client relationship management, and portfolio growth.
  • Comprehensive understanding of marine (re)insurance, including P&I, hull and machinery, and liability coverages.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a client-focused mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • An established professional network within the marine insurance or shipping industry is an advantage.
