Electrical Estimator

Job Brief

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Design & Construct (D&C) Estimator to join a well-established commercial electrical contracting business. You will collaborate closely with the Estimating & Design Team in Australia, preparing accurate cost estimates, reviewing project documentation, and supporting the end-to-end quoting process.

This role suits someone with strong analytical skills, solid experience in D&C electrical estimating, and the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret project briefs, PPRs, drawings, and specifications to understand design intent and scope.
• Perform quantity take-offs and measurements using Groundplan.
• Request, compare, and collate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Assist in preparing Bills of Quantities and cost estimates for commercial electrical D&C projects.
• Liaise with the Australian Estimating & Design Team to ensure all estimates and drawings are accurate and complete.
• Participate in design coordination meetings to ensure drawings align with design briefs, client requests, and best practices.
• Support the preparation of tender documentation and submission packs.
• Provide administrative, document control, and quality-checking support during the pre-construction phase.

Must-Haves

• Minimum 3+ years' experience in electrical D&C estimating for commercial projects.
• Proficiency in Groundplan for take-offs and measurements.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards (AS3000) and construction project documentation.
• Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written).
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail and time management skills.
• Confident using Microsoft Teams for meetings, screen sharing, and collaboration.

Desirable

• Experience using SimPRO (highly advantageous).
• Previous experience in Australian construction or commercial projects.
• Familiarity with Australian building codes, commercial tendering, and D&C documentation standards.
• Experience supporting remote, Australia-based teams.
• Qualification or certification in Electrical, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or Engineering.

Software Proficiency

• Groundplan – Essential for take-offs and drawing interpretation
• Microsoft 365 Suite – Teams (Essential), Excel (Advanced), Word (Advanced), OneDrive, Planner
• SimPRO – Advantageous

Education

• Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Electrical Trade, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying preferred.
