Accounting Associate (or Staff Accountant)

Position Overview: The Accounting Associate is a key member of our finance team, responsible for upholding the integrity and accuracy of our clients' financial data. This role is focused on detailed reconciliation, financial report preparation, and ensuring all transactions are verified and compliant with best practices. You will work closely with the Accounting Manager to maintain pristine financial records and support the overall health of the communities we serve.

Specific Duties:

· Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for a portfolio of associations, ensuring they are accurate, timely, and compliant with U.S. GAAP.

· Bank Reconciliation: Perform and maintain complex monthly bank and credit card reconciliations for multiple client accounts, investigating and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner.

· Account Reconciliation: Prepare and analyze general ledger account reconciliations (e.g., prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, receivables) to ensure the integrity of the balance sheet.

· Transaction Verification & Internal Audit: Conduct internal reviews of financial transactions to verify accuracy, proper coding, and appropriate documentation. Assist with internal and external audit procedures by providing supporting schedules and explanations.

· Budget Preparation Support: Support the annual budget preparation process by compiling historical financial data, analyzing trends, and assisting the Accounting Manager with budget-to-actual variance analysis.

· Month-End Close: Play an active role in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing journal entries and supporting schedules.

· Data Integrity: Ensure all financial data entered into the accounting system is accurate, verified, and free of error, maintaining a high standard for all financial records.

Qualifications & Skills:

· Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

· Experience: 1-3 years of direct experience in an accounting role with a focus on reconciliation and financial statement preparation.

· Core Competencies:

o Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and fundamental accounting principles.

o Demonstrated, hands-on experience with bank and general ledger account reconciliation.

o An exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy are mandatory.

o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve errors.

o Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

o Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Odoo, AvidStrongRoom, QuickBooks), advanced Google workspace and advanced MS Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables are a plus).

o A proactive and collaborative team player dedicated to process improvement.
