Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor

Cost Estimation & Budgeting

  • Prepare cost estimates for projects.
  • Develop and manage budgets.
  • Advise on cost-saving options.

Tendering & Procurement

  • Prepare tender documents and contracts.
  • Evaluate contractor bids and negotiate costs.
  • Manage procurement of materials and subcontractors.

Contract Administration

  • Draft, review, and manage contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve contractual disputes.

Measurement & Valuation

  • Conduct on-site measurements.
  • Prepare bills of quantities (BoQ).
  • Assess and certify work done by contractors.

Risk & Value Management

  • Identify and assess project risks.
  • Conduct value engineering to optimize project costs.
  • Implement cost control measures.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Attend project meetings and provide cost updates.
  • Ensure smooth coordination between project teams.

Qualifications & Skills Required

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., RICS, AIQS, CIQS) is an advantage.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in cost estimating software (e.g., CostX, Candy, AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., FIDIC, JCT, NEC).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and materials.

Soft Skills:

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong negotiation and communication abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
