Job Brief

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in Hazardous Areas. This role involves ensuring safe and compliant electrical designs, installations, and inspections in high-risk environments such as chemical plants, oil & gas, and manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate will have current EEHA certification and demonstrated understanding of AS/NZS and IEC standards.

Responsibilities:

Design, review, and implement electrical systems in hazardous areas in accordance with AS/NZS 4761 and IEC standards

Conduct inspections, audits, and compliance checks on hazardous area equipment and installations

Prepare and review technical documentation, risk assessments, and compliance reports

Collaborate with engineering, HSE, and operations teams to ensure ongoing safety and compliance

Provide expert advice on hazardous area classification and installation design

Ensure proper maintenance and lifecycle management of electrical equipment in hazardous zones

Requirements:

Proven experience as an Electrical Engineer working specifically in Hazardous Areas

Current EEHA (Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Areas) certification

Demonstrated competencies under AS/NZS 4761

Knowledge and practical experience with IEC standards relating to hazardous areas

Strong understanding of electrical safety regulations and compliance frameworks

Excellent attention to detail and technical problem-solving skills

Desirable:

Site-based experience in mining, energy, or heavy industrial environments

RPEQ or equivalent professional registration (if applicable)

Experience with hazardous area software tools (e.g., Ex Register, hazardous area classification tools)

Software Proficiency:

Microsoft Office Suite

Engineering documentation and drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD, EPlan)

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

Personal Attributes:

Safety-conscious and compliance-driven

Clear communicator with strong documentation skills

Analytical mindset with the ability to make sound engineering judgments

Time Zone: Australian Business Hours
