I. PURPOSE

  • The Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and maintaining copper and fiber optic cabling systems. This role supports the backbone of telecommunications infrastructure in commercial, industrial, and institutional environments, ensuring reliable connectivity for data, voice, and video systems.

II.    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, terminate, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A and fiber optic cables.
  • Perform cable management, labeling, and documentation
  • Conduct site surveys to assess cabling needs and layout
  • Troubleshoot and repair cabling issues and connectivity problems
  • Ensure installations comply with industry standards and building codes
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians
  • Maintain tools and equipment used for cabling tasks

III. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Minimum Education

  • High School Graduate / Vocational

B. Minimum Experience/Training

  • Proven work experience in Structured Cabling System.

C. Competency

  • Skilled in the installation, termination and Testing of copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
  • Proficient in using advanced diagnostic tools (Fluke testers) to verify cable integrity, identify faults
  • Maintains accurate records of cable layouts, test results, and labeling.
  • Experienced in handling tools including punch-down tools, fusion splicers, crimpers
  • Collaborates with engineers, project managers, and fellow technicians.
