Work Location:

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Shopify Developer (Project-Based) to join our dynamic team at The Web Guys NZ. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality Shopify-based e-commerce solutions for our clients.

Your expertise in Shopify's Liquid templating language, along with proficiency in Shopify CLI and the local theme development workflow, will be essential in delivering visually appealing, functional, and high-performing Shopify stores.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, customise, and maintain Shopify themes and templates based on client requirements and design specifications.
• Utilise Shopify CLI and the local theme development workflow for efficient, scalable development.
• Deliver visually engaging and highly functional Shopify stores that provide exceptional user experiences.
• Implement custom functionalities using Liquid, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant front-end frameworks.
• Collaborate with designers to translate visual concepts into responsive, user-friendly Shopify stores.
• Optimise site performance, loading speed, and SEO readiness.
• Integrate third-party systems, APIs, payment gateways, and marketing tools with Shopify.
• Test, debug, and document all developed features to ensure quality and maintainability.
• Stay current with the latest Shopify features, best practices, and development standards.
• Provide guidance to junior developers and assist in upskilling the broader development team.
• Collaborate with project managers, designers, and QA engineers to ensure on-time and successful project delivery.

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 4–6 years of proven experience in Shopify development, particularly in custom theme and template development.
• Strong proficiency in Shopify CLI and local theme development workflows.
• Expertise in Shopify Liquid, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design principles.
• Solid understanding of e-commerce functionality, including product catalogues, inventory management, and payment processing.
• Familiarity with Git or other version control systems, and Agile development methodologies.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to deliver high-quality, pixel-perfect outputs.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical team members.
• Up-to-date knowledge of Shopify ecosystem updates and trends.

Preferred / Bonus Skills:

• Experience with Shopify app development and API integration.
• Familiarity with SEO best practices for e-commerce and Shopify sites.
• Experience using performance monitoring and optimisation tools.
• Shopify certification or completion of relevant Shopify development training.
