Job Description: HVAC Take Off/ Estimator

Summary

The HVAC Take Off/ Estimator is a critical member of the pre-construction team responsible for accurately estimating the materials, equipment, and labor needed for HVAC projects. The role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to interpret complex architectural and mechanical plans to ensure that project proposals are comprehensive and competitive.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

· Plan and Specification Review: Analyze and interpret project blueprints, specifications, and related documents to understand the full scope of HVAC system requirements.

· Material Quantity Takeoff: Perform detailed calculations to determine the exact quantities of all necessary materials, including ductwork, piping, insulation, vents, and other fittings.

· Equipment Sizing and Selection: Identify and specify the appropriate HVAC equipment, such as air handlers, furnaces, and chillers, based on the project's heating and cooling load requirements.

· Labor and Cost Estimation: Accurately estimate the number of labor hours needed for installation, fabrication, and assembly. Calculate the total project cost, including materials, equipment, and labor.

· Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Obtain and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors to secure the best pricing for materials and services.

· Discrepancy Identification: Proactively identify and report any inconsistencies or potential issues within the project plans to the project management or engineering teams.

· Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed and clear bid proposals, reports, and materials lists for internal use and client presentations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

· Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of HVAC systems, components, and installation methods. Knowledge of local and national building codes is a plus.

· Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to meticulously review complex documents and identify every component required for a project.

· Computer Proficiency: Experience with HVAC takeoff and estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff) is highly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, is essential.

· Analytical Skills: Strong mathematical and analytical skills for accurate quantity and cost calculations.

· Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, vendors, and clients.

· Education and Experience: A degree or certificate in a related field (e.g., engineering, construction management) and prior experience in an HVAC or construction role are highly valued.
