A grounds and landscaping supervisor is primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of a property's outdoor spaces, including the planting, maintenance, and upkeep of lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, walkways, and other landscaping features, while supervising a team of groundskeeping staff to ensure everything is properly cared for and maintained according to established standards.

Key duties of a grounds maintenance supervisor include:

Staff Management:

  • Assigning tasks and monitoring work performance.
  • Scheduling shifts and ensuring proper coverage.
  • Evaluating employee performance and providing feedback

Landscaping Operations:

  • Planning and coordinating all landscaping activities, including planting schedules, fertilization, pruning, and weeding.
  • Overseeing lawn mowing, trimming, and edging
  • Managing tree care, including pruning, removal, and planting
  • Maintaining flower beds, shrubs, and hedges

Grounds Maintenance:

  • Inspecting grounds for potential issues like damaged walkways, uneven surfaces, or diseased plants
  • Coordinating repairs and maintenance of outdoor structures like fences, benches, and patios
  • Managing snow removal and ice control during winter months
  • Maintaining irrigation systems and ensuring proper watering schedules

Budgeting and Procurement:

  • Creating and managing the grounds maintenance budget
  • Ordering necessary landscaping supplies, equipment, and materials

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensuring all groundskeeping staff adheres to safety protocols and proper use of equipment
  • Maintaining compliance with local regulations regarding landscaping and environmental practices
