Customs Specialist (Bilingual – English/Spanish)

Remote | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM MST | Full-Time Employee

About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled Customs Specialist with expertise in international commerce, particularly in the food and beverage industry. This role is ideal for a bilingual (English/Spanish) professional with strong knowledge of import/export compliance, international sanitary regulations, and global logistics operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all operational aspects of international import and export activities.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, FSIS, and global food safety and labeling regulations.
  • Coordinate multimodal logistics operations (cold chain, urgent air freight, cross-docking).
  • Prepare and review trade documents (invoices, bills of lading, packing lists, certificates of origin, permits).
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, logistics partners, and government agencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (legal, QA, procurement, warehouse) to ensure seamless compliance and documentation.
  • Monitor and interpret trade agreements, tariff updates, and customs changes.
  • Manage customs clearance, tariff classification, and duty exposure.
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting.
  • Drive process improvements and digital transformation in compliance and logistics systems (ERP, TMS, GTS).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in International Trade, International Business, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of INCOTERMS, international shipping terms, and customs procedures.
  • Proven experience in international trade, preferably in perishable goods (food & beverage).
  • Bilingual: Fluent in English and Spanish (verbal and written).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in critical logistics situations.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across global teams.
  • Familiarity with trade software and platforms is a plus.
