We are building a team of highly skilled security engineers to work on providing robust security coverage across various ecosystems and environments. As part of our Ubuntu Security Team, you will collaborate with industry-leading experts in technology to monitor, triage, respond to, and document new and existing vulnerabilities in open source software.

As an Ubuntu Security Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing and fixing vulnerabilities in open source packages
  • Keeping track of vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem as they are discovered, researched, and fixed
  • Collaborating with other teams in the community and upstream developers to exchange or develop vulnerability patches and ensure that Ubuntu includes the most robust security features

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • A thorough understanding of common security vulnerabilities and techniques for fixing them
  • Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices
  • Skill in one or more programming languages such as C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Excellent logic, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the team and community members
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability

This is an engineering-focused position that requires international travel at least twice a year.
