
Senior Payroll Expert

The Senior Payroll Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate full-cycle payroll processing. This involves participating in year-end activities, 3rd party government remittances, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Administration: The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving and verifying payroll-related data, preparing payroll for assigned locations, and ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Troubleshooting and System Maintenance: The individual will troubleshoot system issues, file tickets as needed, and follow up on status with the payroll system support team. They will also validate fixes as they are released.
- Benefit Administration: The Senior Payroll Specialist will calculate and apply accurate benefit deductions for health, dental, vision, retirement, and other plans. They will also monitor pre-tax and post-tax contributions to ensure compliance with CRA regulations.
- Reporting and Compliance: The individual will complete monthly and quarterly Statistics Canada payroll surveys, reconcile discrepancies between payroll deductions and benefit invoices, and update payroll and HRIS systems with benefit-related changes.
- Leadership and Collaboration: The Senior Payroll Specialist will lead and execute system upgrade testing when necessary, work closely with the reporting manager to determine reporting requirements, structure, content, and timing, and provide ongoing support to store managers and designates regarding scheduling, timesheets, payroll processing, and authorizations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A minimum College diploma is required, with post-secondary certification an asset.
- Certification: Canadian Payroll Certificate is a must.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years comparable experience supporting a multi-location employer is preferred.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency with software applications in desktop environments (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and payroll systems (Ceridian Dayforce) is required.
- Soft Skills: Strong organizational, planning, and detail skills are essential. Demonstrated ability and interest to provide exceptional quality customer-focused service is a must.

- Reports to: Head of Human Resources
- Collaborates with: Human Resources, Store Operations team, and Play HQ staff

This role requires mental effort and concentration to use computer systems, implement changes, focus on solving issues, meeting customer expectations, coaching individuals from a distance, and meeting deadlines for extended periods.
