About the Mortgage Underwriter Role

This position involves strong expertise in mortgage loan underwriting and/or mortgage disclosure processing, ideal for professionals with exposure to active mortgage production environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Loan Preparation & Accuracy:
    • Review and validate all mortgage loan components, including borrower documentation, financial data, and property appraisals.
    • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with Automated Underwriting System (AUS) outputs.
  • Credit & Risk Mitigation:
    • Identify and resolve credit issues to minimize risks, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain meticulous documentation for each underwriting decision, creating a transparent audit trail.
  • Quality Assurance & Process Improvement:
    • Conduct quality checks on completed loan packages to uphold a high standard of accuracy.
    • Recommend and implement improvements to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of meaningful experience with mortgage loan underwriting (conventional, FHA/VA, non-QM) for US consumers.
  • Familiarity with TRID guidelines, agency and investor guidelines (Fannie/Freddie/HUD/VA).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Experience with customer information tools and task management tools.
  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, finance, economics, or related fields.
