Overview:
The Financial and Medical Records Specialist is a critical role that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Record Management: Manage medical records requests, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and maintaining confidentiality.
- Intake and Triage: Receive and log all incoming records requests, verifying the identity of requestors and confirming the scope, purpose, and expiration of authorizations.
- Clinical and Provider Clearance: Route requests to treating clinicians and providers for review and approval, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
- Legal Request Handling: Review subpoenas, court orders, and payer audits, adhering to strict guidelines and deadlines.
- Record Preparation and Fulfillment: Retrieve designated record sets from electronic health records/document repositories and send records via secure methods.
- Quality Assurance: Perform self-checks and participate in periodic reviews to maintain high-quality services.
Requirements:
- Experience: 2+ years in medical records, health information management, or billing/finance operations in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge and Skills: Proven knowledge of HIPAA privacy/security requirements and the minimum necessary standard, strong written communication skills, and proficiency with EHR or document management systems, secure email/encryption, efax, and Microsoft 365/Google Workspace.
