Job Summary:
The Legal Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to the legal department. This role involves assisting with legal research, document preparation, filing, and other tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Key Responsibilities:
Document Management:
Prepare, review, and organize legal documents such as contracts, agreements, pleadings, and other related paperwork.
- Assist in the drafting and formatting of legal correspondence and reports.
- Ensure proper filing, tracking, and maintenance of legal documents, both physical and electronic.
Legal Research:
Conduct research on legal issues, case law, statutes, and regulations as required by the legal team.
- Prepare legal summaries and reports to assist attorneys in case preparation or legal analysis.
Client and Court Interaction:
Liaise with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Assist in scheduling meetings, hearings, and appointments for legal matters.
- File legal documents with courts and government agencies, ensuring compliance with procedural deadlines.
Contract Review & Management:
Assist in the review and analysis of contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Maintain and track contract deadlines, renewals, and other important terms.
Administrative Support:
Manage the legal department's calendar and schedule meetings and appointments for attorneys.
- Handle phone calls, emails, and other communication related to legal matters.
- Maintain organized records and files for all ongoing legal matters.
Confidentiality & Compliance:
Ensure that all information handled by the legal department is kept confidential and handled according to company policies and legal standards.
- Assist in ensuring the company's legal compliance in various regulatory and legal matters.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Political Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal, or in a similar legal support role.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.
- Familiarity with legal research tools and databases.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant legal software.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Paralegal certification or relevant legal training is a plus.
- Experience in specific legal areas such as corporate law, labor law, or real estate law (depending on the company's needs).
- Experience with case management software and e-filing systems.
