The Lights and Sounds Technician is responsible for preparing, operating, and maintaining the lighting and sound systems used in theater productions and live events. This role ensures all technical aspects are executed safely and efficiently, contributing to a seamless and immersive audience experience. The technician works closely with lighting designers, sound engineers, stage managers, and directors to support the artistic and operational requirements of each production.

Specific Duties

  • Interpret and execute lighting plans provided by the lighting designer.
  • Rig, focus, and operate lighting and sound equipment required for performances.
  • Program lighting consoles and manage automated color-change systems prior to each show.
  • Follow cues from the stage manager to ensure timely technical execution.
  • Operate both manual and computerized lighting and sound systems during performances.
  • Maintain all lighting and sound equipment in safe, working condition.
  • Perform basic electrical maintenance related to lighting systems as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations to ensure a hazard-free environment.
  • Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and techniques relevant to stage lighting and sound.
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned by the Production and Technical Services Assistant Manager

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a vocational or technical course in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Audio Engineering, or related fields.
  • A degree in Theater Arts, Communication, or Engineering is an advantage but not required
  • At least 1–2 years of relevant experience in lighting and sound operations, preferably in theater, live events, or production settings.
  • TESDA NCII or relevant technical certification in Electronics or Electrical Installation and Maintenance is a plus
