An audio-visual (AV) technician sets up, operates, and troubleshoots audio, video, and lighting equipment for events and in permanent installations. Key responsibilities include configuring and testing equipment like microphones, projectors, and soundboards, collaborating with clients to meet their needs, and ensuring high-quality performance during live events or presentations. Maintenance, repair, and sometimes training others on equipment usage are also core duties. Core responsibilities

  • Setup and operation: Transporting, setting up, connecting, and operating AV equipment such as microphones, speakers, projectors, video displays, and lighting systems.
  • Event support: Monitoring and operating equipment during live events, conferences, and other presentations to ensure seamless audio and visual quality.
  • Technical support: Providing technical assistance to users and troubleshooting issues, such as audio feedback or poor video quality, to find and implement solutions.
  • Maintenance and repair: Performing regular maintenance, cleaning, and repairs on AV equipment to ensure it is in good working order and to prevent future failures.
  • System installation: Installing permanent AV systems in various settings like conference rooms, classrooms, and venues, which can include running cables, mounting projectors, and building equipment racks.
  • Client collaboration: Working with clients, event planners, and presenters to understand their AV needs and ensure the technology supports their objectives.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Technical proficiency with a wide range of audio and visual equipment, including soundboards, mixers, projectors, and cameras.
  • Familiarity with software for live streaming, such as OBS, and video editing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry equipment, and to work in various positions like standing for long periods or climbing.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and other team members.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and adapt to changing priorities, as events can be unpredictable.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
