Pollution Control Officer

The Pollution Control Officer (PCO) is responsible for ensuring that the organization complies with all environmental laws and regulations related to pollution prevention and control. The PCO monitors operations, manages environmental permits, submits reports to environmental agencies, and implements pollution control programs to minimize the company's environmental footprint.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., DENR, EPA, local environmental regulations).
Maintain and renew environmental permits and licenses (e.g., Discharge Permits, Environmental Compliance Certificates).
Liaise with environmental authorities for inspections and audits.
Monitoring & Reporting:
Monitor air, water, and waste discharges to ensure they meet regulatory standards.
Prepare and submit required reports (e.g., SMR, CMR, PCO reports) to government agencies.
Maintain updated environmental records and logs.
Waste Management:
Oversee proper segregation, storage, treatment, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
Coordinate with accredited transporters and treatment, storage, and disposal (TSD) facilities.
Program Development & Implementation:
Develop and implement pollution prevention and control programs.
Recommend improvements in waste reduction, energy use, and resource efficiency.
Training & Awareness:
Conduct environmental awareness training for employees.
Promote best practices in environmental management across departments.
Emergency Preparedness:
Assist in the preparation and execution of environmental emergency response plans.
Respond to environmental incidents and lead investigations as needed.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Certification:
Accredited Pollution Control Officer by the appropriate agency, e.g., DENR.
Experience:
Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in environmental compliance or pollution control (may vary depending on the role level).
Skills & Competencies:
Knowledge of local and national environmental regulations.
Strong report-writing and documentation skills.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in MS Office and environmental management software.
