We are seeking a
Backend Software Engineer

to join our dynamic team and help us build, maintain, and improve our internal and external systems.

Note:
This position is open only to candidates
residing full time in Baguio City, Philippines.
The role will be
hybrid for the first 3 months
, then transition to
100% on-site
. We are looking for someone who can
start immediately
.

As a Backend Software Engineer at School Basics, you help design, implement, and optimize systems that power critical applications for daily operations, including:

  • Infrastructure: Build and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance systems (ERP) to ensure operational reliability.
  • Platform: Develop robust APIs and developer tools to improve team efficiency and scalability.
  • Product: Engineer backend services that support customer-facing services to deliver seamless user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend systems that support key business operations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Work with databases, internal APIs, and backend services to ensure performance and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot, debug, and optimize backend functionality.
  • Participate in code reviews, system testing, and contribute to best practices in backend development.
  • Brings experience across different programming languages and technologies, with a flexible and adaptable approach to problem-solving.
  • Ensure reliable documentation and maintain clean, well-organized codebases.
  • Contribute to improving our data capture capabilities and product features.

Who You Are

  • Written, auditory and spoken English fluency is required for effective collaboration with our U.S.-based team.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in backend development.
  • Proficient in one or more languages such as , Python, or Java, and willing to switch between them as needed.
  • Comfortable with SQL, Git, and working with RESTful APIs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative attitude.
  • Able to work independently, but open to guidance and feedback from peers and team leads.
  • Open to working full-time (9 AM – 5 PM EST schedule).
