The Merchandising Manager has the following core responsibilities and principal accountabilities:

I. Repertorial Function

  • Review daily Receiving Summary to plan and determine how to merchandise each category and verify appointment versus order dates.
  • Review and Analyze Zero Sales Report, Top Article, Week Supply, Top 50/100 and Never Out Articles,
  • Monitoring of Weekly Near-Expiry report for pull-out, for RTV or for approval of Store Manager or General Manager for MD or disposal
  • Review End Cap report on a weekly basis for checking if the display is for replacement
  • Check merchandising team schedule (officers, supervisors, stockers, merchandisers).

II. Stock & Merchandise Function

  • Plans and directs merchandise moves and placement.
  • Ensures proper display and cleanliness of area in accordance with set standards and procedures.
  • Impose Six Rights of Merchandising and Stocking.
  • Directs and oversees the entire merchandising operations during the assigned shift schedule.
  • Ensures proper Inventory management are being practice and implemented (First Expiry First Out and First In First Out – FEFO/FIFO)
  • Ensure no buffer stocks at the back and displays have no "air space".
  • Ensure all displays have correct and updated signages.
  • Ensures movement of items meets the declared timeline.

III. Sales & Promotion Function

  • Plans objectives and activities ahead and conceives new creative ideas and techniques.
  • Check if items on the promotion are displayed properly highlighted and with the right sign.
  • Ensure all endcaps "as much as possible" displays should be on promo.

IV. Shrinkage Control & Inventory Function

  • Ensure that all damaged items will be verified and endorse properly to RTV / Damage Cle
  • Ensure that all expiry reports are well coordinated to the buying team for price markdown to minimize if not prevent items to be in Disposal
  • Check break pack and bundling memos.
  • Ensure all expiry reports were reported according to the set timeline.

V. Staff Management & Development Function

  • Conducts splinter meetings with supervisors and staff and ensures regular floor walk with them.
  • Prepares weekly work schedules of supervisors and staff.
  • Provides training to all staff in the department.
  • Motivates staff to peak efficiency and productivity and at the same time maintains a harmonious and pleasant working atmosphere.
  • Analyses work methods and distribution to eliminate idle time and maximize employee's productivity and capacity.
  • Visualizes and anticipates new problems and develops practical solutions.
  • Alters activities to the proper course of action to meet the changing demands of new situations.
  • Makes sound and prompt decisions and accepts responsibility for decisions.
  • Defines and arranges activities into logical and practical assignments to attain the desired objectives.
  • Assigns appropriate responsibilities to subordinates with authority to develop and execute their designated objectives.
  • Sees to it that plans are effectively carried out, maintains an awareness of their status and maintains full mastery of the department's operations.
  • Reiterate the importance of "Lander's Way of Display" to all staff.

VI. Safety and Security

  • Ensure that during operation hours all forklifts on the floor are properly manned with a spotter.
  • Ensure that overstock steel is safe. No damage or unwrapped and tied pallet.
  • No unattended pallet jack on the selling area.

VII. Maintenance & Equipment

  • Check forklift checklist & pallet jack maintenance.
  • Ensure that Freezer and Chiller both walk in, and POS are in correct temperature.
