Overview

The Restaurant Supervisor oversees the daily operations of a Japanese dining establishment, ensuring high standards of food quality, service excellence, and authentic Japanese dining experiences. This role involves supervising staff, coordinating with the kitchen and service teams, maintaining hygiene standards, and supporting management in achieving operational and financial goals.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Supervise daily restaurant operations to ensure smooth service and adherence to company standards.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen (sushi chefs, teppanyaki chefs, etc.) to ensure timely food preparation and consistent quality.
  • Monitor dining areas for cleanliness, presentation, and ambiance aligned with Japanese dining traditions.
  • Manage reservations, seating, and guest flow to maximize table turnover and guest satisfaction.

Team Supervision & Training

  • Lead and motivate service staff, including servers, hosts, and bussers.
  • Conduct regular training on Japanese menu items, sake knowledge, customer service etiquette, and upselling techniques.
  • Prepare shift schedules, assign duties, and monitor staff performance.
  • Ensure staff follow proper grooming, hygiene, and service protocols.

Customer Service

  • Greet and interact with guests, ensuring a warm and authentic Japanese hospitality experience (omotenashi).
  • Handle guest complaints or feedback promptly and professionally.
  • Work with the management team to develop promotions, events, or seasonal Japanese offerings (e.g., Omakase, Kaiseki menus).

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Inspect food and beverage quality, presentation, and temperature before service.
  • Monitor inventory and assist in ordering supplies and ingredients specific to Japanese cuisine (e.g., seafood, wasabi, soy sauces, sake).

Administrative & Financial Support

  • Assist the Restaurant Manager in budgeting, cost control, and revenue tracking.
  • Prepare daily reports on sales, labor, and service performance.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss operational improvements and customer feedback.
