Network and Telecoms Specialist

Job description:

Duties and responsibilities:

• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance of IT and Telecommunication Systems
• Implements company procedures, systems equipment in particular telecommunications equipment to meet contractual requirements.
• Creates / Reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in performing preventive and corrective maintenance task of Telecommunication Systems equipment.
• Carries out first and second level corrective maintenance of Telecom Systems Equipment.
• Liaises with sub-contractors/manufacturers regarding third level or specific preventive/corrective maintenace activities of Telecommunications equipment.
• Assists in the upkeep of stores for IT and Telecoms inventory, consumables and spare parts.
• Observes technical procedures and work instructions whilst maintaining safe work practices at all times.
• Participates in appropriate training both formally and on-the-job as required.
• Prepare all documentation related to reporting of IT and telecoms system management activity (daily, weekly and monthly reports).
• Cooperates with Maintenance Management System as well as entering all maintenance activities to MMS or any Helpdesk System.
• Ensures all essential communication facilities managed by Information Technology Services are operational in all MPTSouth offices and work locations.
• Assist end users in using IT and telecoms systems equipment.
• Liases with service providers and relevant government agencies.
• Monitors and maintains the Telecommunications network thru Network Management Systems (NMS) and generates telephone extension line call data records for internal billing purposes.
• Ensures full operation of MPTSouth LAN & WAN network in all locations.

Qualifications:

Education

• Information Technology, Computer Engineer, Electronics Communication, and/or Equivalent Engineering Courses

Experience

• Well experienced in IT and Telecommunications Equipment Operation & Maintenance
• Experience in service/maintenance of diagnostic tools and computer operations and repair of telecommunication equipment and installations with a minimum of 3 years on the job application
• Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of IT and Telecommunication Systems Equipment preferably from a reputable Telecom operator/company.
• Hands on experience in Fiber Optic Cable, PABX, LAN/WAN, Private Radio Communication System, LAN/WAN and other electronic equipment that may be assign from time to time.
• With valid driver's license and excellent driving skills.

Licenses

• Licensed Engineer is an advantage

• Has fully acquired and demonstrated the knowhow, skills and experience in engineering/technical disciplines critical to the operations of IT and Telecommunication Systems
• Must be willing to stay beyond working/shift hours until works are duly completed and accomplished
• Must be willing to do field work with regular exposure to dirt, noise, heat, sunlight, wind and rain, or any other potential hazardous substances.
• 24/7 "On Call" Service particularly during emergency and/or exceptional cases where operations and maintenance of Toll Operations would be affected
• Required to care for and operate all assigned tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner;
• Required to care for and properly manage all facilities, materials, supplies, stocks and inventories under his supervision;
• Required to maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment of the assigned workstation.
• Responsible for the Sections or Department handle during the absence of the Supervisor and Manager during the shift assigned.
• Thorough understanding and demonstrable experience in Equipment and Systems proficient in the use of computer systems and complex diagnostic tools
• Good ethics, dedication on the job and a team player.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels
• Demonstrate ability to work under pressure and to meet strict timelines.
• Physically and mentally fit.
