Work Hours: Australian Business Hours (8:30 AM – 5:30 PM AEST/AEDT, Monday–Friday)

We are an established Australian marketing agency with 15 years of experience, seeking an exceptional, highly proactive, and experienced accounting professional to join our team as an independent contractor. This is a critical role for someone who is not afraid to take ownership, use their financial acumen to drive business insights, and grow with us.

This is not a role for someone who waits to be told what to do. We are looking for a confident go-getter who can independently manage our financial operations and contribute to our overall business management strategy.

Non-Negotiable Requirements

• MUST have previous work experience with an Australian business (References will be contacted and verified).
• MUST be willing to work Australian hours (8:30 AM – 5:30 PM AEST/AEDT).
• MUST have expert proficiency in Xero (including bank reconciliation, managing the Chart of Accounts, payroll setup, and utilising new reporting tools).
• Dedicated, professional home office setup with stable, high-speed internet.

Core Accounting Responsibilities (The Non-Negotiables)You will be the financial backbone of our business, responsible for end-to-end accounting processes:

• Australian Compliance: Preparation of Installment Activity Statements (IAS), a deep understanding of Business Activity Statements (BAS) and GST compliance, and effective liaison with our local Australian accountants.
• Accounts Receivable: Proactive communication and follow-up with Australian clients to ensure prompt payment and minimise debtors.
• Accounts Payable: Full management of the process, including setting up payments, managing cost centres, and supporting the team with supplier quote requests.
• Payroll: Managing the Xero payroll system, ensuring accuracy, and coordinating with management on compliance.
• Reconciliation: Daily/weekly reconciliation of all bank and credit card accounts within Xero.

Business Management & Job Analysis

Beyond traditional accounting, you will play a crucial role in our operational efficiency:

• Job Management System: Efficiently manage our job management system from end-to-end.
• Setting up new jobs accurately as work is won.
• Analysing job profitability, resourcing, and overall progress.
• Flagging jobs immediately that are in danger of going over time or cost budgets.
• Management Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports to management and department heads on financial performance, job status, and key operational metrics.
