Their duties include reviewing technical documents, supervising subcontractors, conducting site inspections, managing material procurement, and preparing progress reports to ensure the mechanical aspects of a project meet deadlines and specifications. Key Responsibilities

  • Project Supervision:Oversee the installation and integration of mechanical systems like HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and power systems on the construction site.
  • Technical Oversight:Review technical drawings (shop drawings), method statements, and material submittals from subcontractors.
  • Quality Assurance:Ensure all mechanical work is completed to project specifications, quality standards, and applicable local and international codes.
  • Safety Compliance:Work with the safety engineer to implement and enforce safety precautions and procedures on the job site.
  • Coordination:Liaise with project managers, architects, other site engineers, foremen, subcontractors, and clients to ensure smooth execution of the project.
  • Reporting:Prepare and submit regular progress reports (weekly, monthly) to management on the status of mechanical works.
  • Problem-Solving:Identify and resolve technical issues or challenges that arise during the installation and commissioning phases.
  • Material & Resource Management:Make quantity surveys to determine resource needs and assist in the procurement of necessary mechanical equipment and materials.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Experience in mechanical system design, installation, and site activities for construction projects is essential.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with various mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage tasks, follow project schedules, and contribute to meeting project goals.
  • Attention to Detail: Crucial for ensuring quality and compliance with technical specifications.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze situations and develop effective solutions on site.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and best practices in a construction environment.
