Position Summary

This Accountant position is responsible for overseeing the financial close process and ensuring deadlines are met. The role involves monitoring the work of bookkeepers, performing reconciliations, and preparing financial statements and cash flow forecasts. You will be expected to identify and report any financial irregularities and support special projects as required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Month-End Closing and Financial Reporting:

◦ Ensure that closing deadlines will be met.

◦ Prepare monthly bank account and balance sheet account reconciliations as part of the closing routine.

◦ Review posting activity compared to a checklist to ensure all routine entries needed for a normal close have been posted.

◦ Review other journals for tie-out to source documents and appropriate coding, and post to the ledger.

◦ Review current month's account activity to ensure proper coding.

◦ Submit draft financial statements to the Director of Accounting Services according to posted deadlines. Required reports include Financial Income and Expense by class, Financial Income and Expense Current Month and Year-To-Date, and Transactions by Vendor (current and prior month)

1. Account Analysis and Control:

◦ Identify all open items included in the month-end balance, highlighting any item not cleared in the current period.

◦ Understand why non-current items are in any account reconciliation and determine what actions will be needed to clear them from the reconciliation in the next month.

◦ Communicate non-current items to the bookkeeper and Accounting Manager and ensure follow-up in the next month.

◦ Immediately advise the Accountant Manager of any financial irregularities or suspected internal control issues.

1. Client Monitoring and Forecasting:

◦ Monitor client bookkeepers to ensure routine postings are occurring according to expectations and are being coded consistently and correctly, and provide support and assistance as needed.

◦ Work with the bookkeeper to prepare a weekly estimate of the next four week's cash flow forecast.

◦ Ensure the forecast incorporates Accounts Payable aging and payroll related activities.

◦ Include routine funding sources as well as less routine bank deposits (ASP, cafeteria, fundraising, class trips, etc.) in the forecast.

◦ Send the cash flow report to the Accounting Manager and Director of Accounting

Special Projects: Handle special projects as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting
• 1 to 2 years of experience in accounting
• Knowledge-Skills-Abilities: Excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentation, and active listening).
• Proficiency: Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload. Must be proficient in QuickBooks; familiarity with Zoho is a plus.
• Competencies: Teamwork, detail-oriented, a sense of urgency, and accountability.

Work Schedule:

• Monday to Friday; 9 PM to 6 AM (Manila Time)

• Home-based
• Should have a strong internet connection (minimum of 20 MBPS)
• Should have own laptop/pc (minimum of i5 8GB)
