Project Supervisor – Secondary Equipment

Key Responsibilities

Site Supervision & Execution

  • Supervise the installation, wiring, testing, and commissioning of secondary systems, including protection relays, control panels, SCADA, metering equipment, and communication systems.
  • Ensure that works comply with approved drawings, wiring diagrams, and functional schematics.
  • Witness and verify functional tests, interlocking checks, relay settings, and system integration.

Testing & Quality Control

  • Oversee protection relay testing (primary injection, secondary injection, end-to-end testing, etc.).
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance of metering and instrumentation wiring.
  • Validate SCADA/RTU/IED integration, control logic, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and local utility/grid operator requirements.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Enforce adherence to electrical safety standards and safe commissioning practices.
  • Identify and mitigate risks during testing and energization.
  • Ensure lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed during commissioning works.

Coordination & Documentation

  • Coordinate with EPC contractors, equipment vendors, testing groups, and other representatives.
  • Review as-built drawings, schematic diagrams, and relay configuration files.
  • Prepare daily/weekly progress reports and final test/commissioning reports for handover.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Licensed Electrical Engineer (REE/PEE)
  • Minimum 5–8 years' experience in substation or transmission projects with direct involvement in secondary systems.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Protection & control systems (relays, interlocking, breaker control)
  • SCADA, RTU, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, etc.)
  • Metering and instrumentation systems
  • Experience in testing tools and software (relay test sets, configuration tools, etc.).
  • Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards and grid operator requirements.
  • Strong leadership, supervision, and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to work at project sites and travel as needed.

Key Competencies

  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills for protection & control systems.
  • Practical knowledge of commissioning procedures and relay settings.
  • Good understanding of electrical safety and risk management.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple contractors and manage tight schedules.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
