A Procurement Assistant in the food industry supports the purchasing and supply chain operations by assisting with sourcing, ordering, and maintaining inventory of food products, ingredients, packaging, and related materials. This role ensures timely and cost-effective procurement to support production and business needs while adhering to food safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in sourcing and selecting suppliers of food products, raw materials, and packaging.
  • Request and evaluate quotes, samples, and proposals from vendors.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders and procurement documentation.
  • Monitor inventory levels and place orders to avoid shortages or overstocking.
  • Coordinate deliveries and follow up with suppliers to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
  • Maintain supplier databases and procurement records.
  • Support cost analysis and negotiations to achieve value for money.
  • Liaise with internal departments (e.g., production, quality control, finance) to align procurement with operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and internal quality standards.
  • Assist in resolving supply issues, discrepancies, or returns.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in supply chain management, business, or food science is a plus.
  • Experience in procurement, supply chain, or a food-related role preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and order processing.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of food safety and quality standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP) is advantageous.
