Position Summary

The Purchasing Officer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and purchasing raw materials, packaging materials, ingredients, supplies, and services required by the food manufacturing plant. Ensures timely delivery, cost efficiency, quality compliance, and maintains strong supplier relationships while supporting continuous production operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure best price, terms, and delivery lead time.
  • Process purchase requisitions and convert to purchase orders based on approved requests.
  • Ensure purchased items, especially ingredients and food-contact packaging, comply with food safety standards (e.g. GMP/HACCP/FSMS).
  • Coordinate with Production, Warehouse, QA/QC, Finance, and Logistics for material forecasts and requirements.
  • Monitor inventory levels to avoid stockouts and overstocking.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, delivery, responsiveness.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
  • Coordinate deliveries and ensure completeness of items.
  • Resolve delivery issues, quality discrepancies, and non-conformances.
  • Support cost-saving initiatives and procurement strategy improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with company SOPs, approved vendor list, and food manufacturing industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years purchasing/procurement experience, ideally in food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Knowledge in raw materials, food ingredients, packaging materials, and supply chain operations.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Familiar with inventory systems / ERP is an advantage (SAP, Oracle, Odoo, etc.)
  • With knowledge in food safety standards (GMP, HACCP, FSMS) is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
