You'll play a critical role in the development, implementation, programming, testing, and commissioning of bespoke automation and robotic cells.

Your expertise will contribute to the design, optimisation, and performance of our systems, enabling us to deliver transformative solutions to our partners and clients across Australia.

This role is remote, but will require:

  • On-call support coverage on a rotating roster
  • Occasional night shift availability to support commissioning, urgent troubleshooting, or client operations in different time zones

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and optimise control algorithms for bespoke automation systems (3+ years' experience programming industrial robots highly regarded)
  • Design and integrate control systems for real-time operation, ensuring precise and efficient movement, sensing, and interaction
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including mechanical design engineers, fellow controls engineers, and the production team—for seamless system integration
  • Conduct simulations and testing to validate control algorithms, mechanical design, manipulator suitability, and optimise performance to meet cycle time commitments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues remotely or on-site (including during on-call or night shift periods when scheduled)
  • Stay current with advancements in robotics controls across multiple vendor platforms, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement
  • Document design processes, specifications, and prepare technical reports
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong background in robotics controls, with demonstrated experience developing control algorithms for robotic systems
  • Experience programming ABB robots is essential
  • Familiarity with robotic hardware platforms, PLC programming (Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, etc.), sensors, and actuators
  • Solid understanding of control theory (PID control, state-space control, adaptive control)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex control issues under time pressure
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with industrial automation, machine vision, or motion planning is desirable
