Overview:
This position requires tertiary qualifications in accounting to be able to work independently in the remote location. Critical to the position is an eagerness to learn and to assist with routine tasks. One of the essentials of this role is the capacity to work effectively with a strong emphasis on being able to work on tasks independently from commencement to finalization. An ability to interact well with immediate superiors as well as demonstrated confidence and presence over the phone/online meetings/emails is essential.
Strong communication skills both verbal and written are considered an important aspect of the position, as is the capacity to research, and use deductive reasoning to solve problems. An emphasis on being able to ask questions is considered an important aspect of the position. A good understanding and application of accounting software such as Xero or MYOB.
Responsibilities & Work Duties:
- Ensuring all required client information is obtained and reviewed prior to commencing work.
- Managing the monthly and quarterly bookkeeping for relevant entities by accurately recording financial transactions, reconciling balance sheet accounts and maintaining the general ledger.
- Updating and maintaining the fixed assets register and depreciation schedules, reconciling intercompany loans and related party transactions.
- Identifying variance in client accounts and escalating or resolving them to support year-end financial reporting.
- Preparation of fringe benefits tax return
- Calculating capital gain tax on disposal of shares, real estate, and other assets.
- Preparation of income tax returns for various entities including individuals, companies and trusts.
- Preparation of Instalment Activity Statements, PAYG-I and Business Activity Statements (BAS) on a monthly or quarterly basis.
- Payroll processing on a weekly, fortnightly, and monthly basis along with super guarantee payments calculation.
- Preparation and completion of Xero Workpapers for annual compliance reviews.
- Proficiency in accounting software like Xero (Xero XPM, Xero workpaper, Xero Blue) and MYOB.
- Communicating with ATO on behalf of clients regarding ATO debt, lodgment and payment plan
- Ability to work independently while reporting to the team leader/manager in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all information is gathered prior to commencement of accounts work
- Processing of all the work in the software and compilation of Electronic/Manual working papers prior to having it reviewed by Team Leader
- Preparation of detailed working paper files where needed including investment, income and CGT reconciliations for all the SMSFs including in Pension Phase
- Ensure that any queries unresolved have been fully actioned prior to senior staff member's review.
- Prioritize workload to meet time frames for finalization of accounting work requirements
- Prior to commencement of accounts work seek clarification / direction as to requirements
- Analyze results of financial statements and know where and why errors, inconsistencies and variances have occurred
- Complete tax return in tax software and correct discrepancies
- Meeting performance KPI's to set budgets
