Intermediate AU Public Accountant
Shift: 7 am - 4 pm (Manila time)
Location: Remote
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Intermediate Accountant to join the team and assist with the back-end processing and compliance work. The ideal candidate will support the Director by completing bookkeeping, BAS workpapers, preparing individual tax returns, and other compliance and reporting tasks for Australian clients. The role requires a proactive approach and strong attention to detail to free up the Director's time for more client-facing advisory work.
Primary Tasks:
Bookkeeping
- Reconcile bank transactions in Xero.
- Perform bank reconciliations in Xero for multiple client entities.
- Manage receipts using HubDoc to code receipts.
- Process accounts payable and receivable transactions.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Post month-end journal entries.
- Prepare end-of-month work papers to support balance sheet items.
Individual Tax Return Preparation (for review)
- Prepare draft work papers for individual tax returns.
- Review client information and determine if additional queries are required.
- Prepare income tax returns in Xero Tax.
- Prepare the final email to the client with their tax position.
- Collate the tax return to send to the client for signing.
Business Tax Return and Financial Statements Preparation (for review)
- Prepare draft work papers for companies or trusts.
- Prepare cashbooks, tracking income and expenses in Excel.
- Perform trial balance reviews and highlight any anomalies.
- Extract relevant information to form part of work papers.
- Prepare financial statements in Xero Ledger.
- Prepare income tax returns in Xero Tax.
- File and reference relevant source documents.
- Collate the financial package to send to the client for signing.
BAS Preparation
- Prepare draft Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) for Director review.
- Prepare and save appropriate work papers and reports.
- Assist with GST reconciliations and coding accuracy.
Payroll
- Process payroll runs.
- Set up new employees in Xero.
- Prepare PAYG Withholding summaries and reconciliations.
- Assist with Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting compliance.
Superannuation
- Review quarterly wages and superannuation information.
- Save required reports and prepare work papers to support quarterly superannuation expense.
Client Service Support
- Assist with client onboarding by collecting information, setting up clients in Xero Practice Manager, and preparing engagement letters.
- Draft professional correspondence for clients under the Director's guidance.
- Liaise with the Director on client queries and proactively suggest solutions.
Practice Administration & Support
- Maintain and update client records in Xero Practice Manager (XPM).
- Prepare lodgements to be sent to the client for signing.
- Lodge BAS and tax returns via Xero Tax.
- Maintain and save client data in allocated client folders.
- Manage and monitor the firm's email inbox, flagging items for Director action.
- Prepare invoices for clients.
- Maintain an organized digital filing system.
- Create and maintain checklists and SOPs for recurring client work.

Required Experience & Education
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
- Prior Work: Experience with an Australian public accounting firm.
Required Software/Systems
- Advanced proficiency with Xero accounting software.
- Experience with HubDoc or a similar receipts management software.
- Experience with Xero Practice Manager (XPM).
- Knowledge of Australian GST, payroll, and superannuation systems.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Php40, Php80,000.00 per month
