Senior Facade Structural Engineer

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General:

• Reviews and interprets architectural and structural drawings, façade architectural design intent, and project specifications

• Reviews and responds to all correspondences for the project and initiates communication or Request for Information (RFI's) when needed to ensure information requirements are acquired to resolve open issues and provide timely structural deliverables; the correspondences must be structured, filed, and coordinated with the Document Controller.

• Provides actual progress or status report of works, delays, schedule of resources and distribution of work load to structural team members

• Conducts regular meetings with the department team members when needed and attends meetings as advised or required by the department head

• Ensures that structural design works are finished and submitted within the scheduled time frame required for the project

• Initiates, develops, and interacts with team members to ensure that all structural requirements and assumptions are correctly-reflected on shop and fabrication drawings

• Ensures that structural design requirements are well-understood by the designers involved in the tasks

• Together with subordinates, checks and reviews if all structural requirements are properly-coordinated and included in the shop and fabrication drawings

• Familiarizes oneself with the progress of all the delegated submittal document packages of the project by communicating with internal (ALT) and external clients

• Provides support to other department team members working on other packages as advised and required by their superiors

• Actively initiates and participates in project issue awareness and problem-solving; cooperates with, supports, and guides other project team members, and promotes partnering philosophy at all times

• Demonstrates leadership among team members and motivates them to deliver effectively

• Takes minutes of meetings (MOM) and issues to relevant parties (project emails and all concerned) within the next twenty-four (24) hours

Specific:

• Provides structural design calculation and documentation which includes but is not limited to structural computer modelling, hand or computer calculations, and finite element analysis substantiating structural requirements as per job specifications and relevant codes

• Coordinates with designers on all project structural issues and provides efficient solutions to address these issues

• Ensures structural calculation and documentation will be finished and submitted within the required submission due dates

• Delegates work and assists subordinates in ensuring that all structural project requirements are properly-addressed and coordinated

• Provides RFI (Request for Information) documents to be transmitted to the client to properly-address issues

• Ensures that all required deliverables are satisfactorily-provided and submitted to the client

• Prepares or reviews critical correspondences initially-prepared and coordinated by the Design team if it has an impact on Structural requirements

• Reviews curtain wall specifications and ensures that all relevant and correct information pertaining to the project are properly-incorporated and addressed

• Assists in entitlements and claims by identifying and substantiating the intended claims or variation orders which affect overall schedule

• Familiarizes and tracks flow of information (from architect, client, project structural engineers, and from ALT project team members in general)

• Reviews drawings completed by the design team before submission

• Coordinates with the ALT Mechanical Engineers who performed the calculation of façade system design performance; takes lead in achieving timely submission of thermal calculation documentations (performed by Mechanical Engineers) to the client

• Coordinates with members of the design team regarding any problems that may arise while developing the system and provides inputs and strategies on how to resolve these problems

• Keep members of the project team in-the-loop when coordinating or requesting for necessary structural information needed during the phase of works

• Attends coordination meetings when needed

• Exercises good decision making and sound engineering judgment when coordinating structural requirements with internal (ALT) and external clients

• Extends working hours when needed to complete calculation package for submittal

• Reports to the department head

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering

• Must have at least six (6) years' experience in the façade/curtain wall industry

• Should be able to read and interpret façade system design and relate to structural engineering

• Should be able to understand the requirements and approach to façade/curtain wall structural design

• Should be able to do framing analysis using structural computer models

• Should be able to do finite element analysis to investigate requirements for stresses, reaction loads, deflections, etc.

• Should be able to assess the correctness of computer models and be able to interpret and troubleshoot instabilities in the model

• Must be familiar with Mathcad structural software for structural calculation documentation

• Must be knowledgeable about STAAD Pro and Strand 7 structural software

• Must be knowledgeable about AutoCAD software

• Must have a good quality of work and organized presentation of calculation

• Must have good communication skills

• Should be able to monitor work progress and delegate and manage work assignments of subordinates

• Must be capable of handling multiple tasks, working under pressure, and performing under minimal supervision
