A. General Job Description
- Uphold and promote the Mission, Vision, and Policies of the Nursing Division and the Hospital.
- Stay updated on new regulations, policies, memos, and circulars to ensure proper implementation and compliance.
- Participate actively in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives to enhance patient care within the unit and hospital-wide.
- Provide support during emergency situations as needed in the unit or hospital.
- Attend monthly staff meetings, seminars, and Nursing Service Division activities to remain informed and engaged.
- Take initiative in pursuing professional development through seminars, conferences, and continuing nursing education.
- Guide and mentor newly hired nurses, aides, attendants, and student affiliates in daily routines, nursing procedures, documentation, and patient handovers.
- Maintain professionalism by adhering to hospital standards, policies, and ethical practices.
- Comply with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Demonstrate professional conduct through punctuality, consistent attendance, and adherence to uniform and grooming requirements.
B. Clinical Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to review treatment plans, orders, and progress notes in accordance with established protocols.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate and address patient care needs.
- Provide thorough shift endorsements and ensure accuracy and completeness of patient charts and Kardex entries.
- Monitor vital signs, conduct nursing assessments, and develop care plans based on patient history and clinical findings.
- Perform regular patient rounds, checking IV lines, drains, catheters, postoperative sites, and maintaining room cleanliness.
- Assist physicians during rounds and stay updated on treatment plans and patient progress.
- Immediately report significant changes in patients' physical or behavioral conditions to attending physicians.
- Execute doctor's orders accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring proper documentation.
- Maintain comprehensive nursing documentation from admission through discharge.
- Foster a supportive environment by providing emotional care to patients and their families.
- Adhere strictly to infection control and isolation procedures, including terminal and concurrent disinfection.
Core Nursing Competencies
Perform nursing procedures including:
- IV insertion, blood transfusion, and chemotherapy administration.
- Basic comfort measures (sponge baths, repositioning, back rubs, compresses, oral care).
- Safe medication administration following the "10 Rights," including patient education.
- Operation of medical equipment (BP apparatus, cardiac monitors, ventilators, glucometers, pulse oximeters, suction machines, nebulizers, infusion pumps).
- Care for patients with tracheostomy tubes and colostomy bags.
- Management of enteral feeding via nasogastric or gastrostomy tubes.
- Monitoring and care for patients on mechanical ventilation, including suctioning and early detection of complications.
- Assistance during emergencies (CPR, intubation) and administration of emergency medications per hospital protocol.
- Measurement of intake and output during critical conditions such as shock, bleeding, or postoperative recovery.
- Provision of postoperative care and health teaching to prevent complications and support recovery.
- Preparation of patients for surgery—assisting with hygiene, administering pre-operative medications, reinforcing NPO orders, giving enemas, and completing surgical checklists.
- Facilitation of safe patient discharge, providing guidance on rehabilitation, dietary needs, medications, follow-up appointments, and home care.
Patient Advocacy and Cultural Sensitivity
- Provide culturally competent, respectful, and non-discriminatory care that honors patient dignity and autonomy.
- Advocate for patients by protecting their rights, values, and beliefs.
C. Basic Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Experience: Open to experienced and newly licensed nurses
- Eligibility: Fresh board passers are encouraged to apply
- Membership: Active member of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA)
- Availability: Must be available for immediate employment
